Get to know Karl
My name is Karl Price, and I am a candidate for Jefferson County Attorney. Like many people across Jefferson County, I believe there will always be a necessary tension in our justice system—between protecting public safety and protecting individual rights—and at its best, our legal system must keep working toward the principle that everyone is equal before the law and is treated with fairness and respect in the process.
In this race, experience matters. For nearly 25 years, I have served as an assistant county attorney, and for 25 years I have served as a prosecutor in Jefferson County. Over that time, I have served as Chief Arraignment Court Prosecutor, Lead Prosecutor for crimes involving firearms, Lead Night Traffic Court Prosecutor, Special Assistant Attorney General, Domestic Violence Prosecutor, and Child Support Prosecutor—and I have tried over 500 cases to juries. I’ve also been described as “the toughest prosecutor in the state of Kentucky.”
But for me, this work has never been only about my resume—it’s about the people we serve. Throughout my years as a prosecutor, I have raised my voice for children who did not have a voice and for innocent families who have lost loved ones to violence, always striving for fairness and equality. For more than 25 years I’ve fought for justice in courtrooms, and I know the difference between “a bad person and a good kid in trouble.”
As Jefferson County Attorney, I will continue to protect the most vulnerable members of our community—while fighting for real criminal justice reform that recognizes our system is often driven by undiagnosed mental illness that goes untreated for far too long. I’ve prosecuted violent crimes as a former lead firearms prosecutor, but I’ve also supported alternatives to incarceration in cases driven by mental health, addiction, and poverty, because public safety requires both accountability and solutions that actually work.
Louisville is where I was born, and it’s where I raised my two children. And as a single father, I know what it means to protect our families and those we love. I’m running to prioritize the prevention of crime, uphold racial and gender equity, and promote the dignity and safety of every Louisvillian—so Louisville remains a safe place to raise your family and grow your business.
